Car Paint
Other than car detailing I also would like to talk about Car paint. Its quite related.
I am here to give u guys some quick tips about how to get your paint, to choose the paint colours, where to paint, price range and feedbacks.
Recently, I have just re-paint my 1993 wira.
Let me show you some pictures to get a rough idea..
Car Paint & Detailing Research 29062010

Usually, to paint a sedan/salloon cars needs:
1. 5-9 liters of thinner (needs to be mix into primer, base coat, clear coat, or any other effects paint)
2. 3 sets of 2k clear coat (the thing makes ur car shine, namely AK1050 that comes with a hardener)
3. 6 liters of base coat paint (the colour) -- 6Liters is just for outlook paint, not the whole car body)
4. 2-3 sets of primer(usually in grey colour, that also comes with a hardener)
5. for the effects i use they only need 1 liter. (diamond effect)

STEP 1: After sanding, Primer as the first coating.
Car Paint & Detailing Research 20072010
this is how the car looks like after primer is sprayed onto your car...
Primer is used mainly for colour change and to protect against rust and corrosion.

STEP 2: Applying Base coat paint
there are 2 choices:
a. Solid paint
b. metallic paint
Which means after proper sanding of the primer to make sure that the primer is smooth and no holes at all.. then the colour at your choice will be sprayed.

STEP 3: Applying Effects
To sum up, there is few custom effects you can put onto your car.
a. Pearl effect- under the light/sunlight you can see light blue when your colour is white. most common being used on Toyota Altis new model. google for while colour.

b. illusion effect- multi coloured.. a.k.a bien she lung whereby in different angles you can see that your car has different colours.

c. diamond effect- its like a shining little dust when under a sunlight/light. (compare to metallic its for more bigger and shinier).
Car Paint & Detailing Research 23072010

STEP 4: Last coating (Clear coats)
Car Paint & Detailing Research 22072010
this is how after all paint has been sprayed onto your car.
Clear coat has no colour, boldly its just for shine and seal your colour in place. It is also protects against weather conditions.

Note:
Do not wax your car within 60days after the new paint is applied. Reason being that the curing time is not reached yet. It can cause massive scratch on your new paint. Wax can also covers your paint for being breathable.. since it is not dried up yet (60days). It also can lead to blur or in chinese we call it 'mung mung' cos the thinner is not able to deplete/dry up from the paint effectively.

More updates/pictures will be added soon..
Next I will explain about the layers of paint using an image, how to get your paint, to choose the paint colours, where to paint, price range and feedbacks.
-Car detailing.
-Sound proofing for cars.
and more.. stay tuned.

Car Detailing:

Car Paint & Detailing Research Clear_10
When you see this, there is few coats after it is applied onto your car body (to convey the overall spraying process). The clear coat (top layer) is the most sensitive layer. It can get scratched by just washing your car. Therefore proper techniques must be used in order to have a super perfect shine on your car.

Step 1: Washing
Make sure you do not wash your car under the hot sun. Under the shade is ideal. The car body must not be hot. Do not use cheapo washing liquid because it usually is more stronger and can remove away your wax. Double bucket technique is advisable.
Sponge must be very clean and avoid dropping to the ground.
a. 1 pail for water + detergent
b. 1 pail for water only (after you have dip and wash your car then suds your sponge to remove dirt everytime before you move to step a)
Otherwise, washing with 2 people is even greater!
1 for washing, 1 for spraying (Do it as soon as you wash)

Dry up your vehicle as soon as you wash by using microfiber cloth (must be clean) the one you can get from supersave/tionghee in Miri.
Do not use chamois or normal cloth because it can cause soft scratch if it is not clean enough. Make sure your surrounding area is clean too and the wind blowing that day must be normal because the sand and dirt might caught up onto your car body after you have wash your car. (this is important before moving to wax process)

Step 2: Claying (not really important because it is hard to find claying product here in Miri)
Claying is used to roll onto your car body when it is wet before you dry up the car. This is to stick up all small particles on your car surface.

Step 3: Polishing
Note: Polishing and Waxing is 2 different thing!
Usually Miri market offers polish and wax 2 in 1 product. Polishing has abrasive ingredient in your Polishing product. This can reduce the thickness of your clear coat if apply too many times. Polishing is important is keep your surface smooth because the particles cause a scratch on your car will leave a mark there.
There are few kinds of scratch we can see in Miri:
A. Swirl Marks (Soft Scratch)
Car Paint & Detailing Research 400_bm10

B. Hologram Marks (without proper techniques using orbital buffer can cause hologram marks)
Car Paint & Detailing Research 400_bu10
When polishing avoid using orbital technique which can directly cause swirl mark, use normal forward and backward technique follow by the wind move on your car body.
Again Polishing cloth or sponge must be very cleaN!

Step 4: Wax
This step must be continue straight after your car is CLEAN, NOT hot & DRY!
How to determine the difference in Wax and Polish.
Wax - Protects your clear coat with 1 layer of invincible coating to repel rain (water beads) and feels smooth & silky.
Recommended wax: Waxco Show car wax (polymer) RM 21.90 @ Servay Hyper 2020 / 3M show car polymer wax RM23.90 @ TiongHee.
Car Paint & Detailing Research Autoge10
Polymers coating (more than 1month) can last longer than Carnauba wax (less than 1 month) but Carnauba wax has higher level of wet look.
Note: High temperature can cause carnauba wax to melt. Which cause it do not last longer as Polymer Wax.
After applying allow it to dry to haze (around 30mins) then remove with microfiber cloth (do not mix with drying cloth).
Allow the wax to bond 12hours before you drive (leave it overnight).

A perfect detailing work

i paint my car at beside of wongs motor .. its a house workshop. its krokop road. well, personally i not really satisfy with the paintjob there. instead, i recommend you should paint your car asking the boss to paint. his kaki paint no skill. really s*ck. if you paint brighter colour at the workshop is better cause if darker colour.. you can see all the bad skills of the painter obviously. (by looking at least 10cm away from the paint you can see it clearly whats the problem, but if look from a far the car looks nice) lol.

Colour you must choose yourself too. then bring to workshop do. dont let them choose and buy for you. (applies to all workshops).

another place I should recommend to you is HH car spray and soon huat at lutong beside road, after the traffic light. usually is the tauke do the paint work. recommend based on web review... it seems good. i google a lot lol.
i went there he say, RM2200 with paint and RM1900 without paint for my wira.

1 more place, bao sheng in piasau industry. there will be more expensive RM3000++ I am sure the more you pay , the better results you get. here they offers you car oven (means they spray and bake your car in an large oven) -- better results but .. $$

Shocked

update:
carnauba wax does give the best brilliant effect
polymer wax does give a lasting effect

there is products selling 2 in 1 wax of above. it cost around +-RM50. pricey
